Khmer

Khmer is the mother tongue of the majority of students at the school. This is why we have given it a special place.

In the French curriculum: Khmer is taught in preschool and elementary school for 1.5 to 2 hours per week as part of the PARLE program (Adapted and Reinforced Foreign Language Program). Students practice speaking and discover Khmer culture. They begin to learn written Khmer starting in first grade (CP).

Khmer equivalency program and the French National Diplomas (Diplôme National du Brevet): In addition to the French curriculum, the French School of Battambang has implemented a Khmer equivalency program recognized by the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, from the third year of preschool (GS) through 9th grade (3ème) for the awarding of the National Diploma (Diplôme National du Brevet). This program allows students to master the Khmer language and study according to the specificities of the Cambodian education system. They can therefore easily integrate into the Cambodian school system at the same level should they change schools. Combined with their French education, this program provides them with a solid foundation for successful university and professional integration in Cambodia.
